All about your rating
Displaying your rating
Now that the EHO has visited your premises and provided you with a food hygiene rating, this information will be made public.
Putting your hygiene rating on show is a good advertisement for your businesses if it meets the requirements of food hygiene law.
A good food hygiene rating is good for business – and it means more orders!
Note – the situation is different in Wales and Northern Ireland. Restaurants that have received a rating since November 2013 must, by law, display their rating in a prominent place in all entrances to the premises.
Unsatisfied with your rating?
If you’re unsatisfied because there were certain circumstances that contributed to a negative rating, you can consider the following three actions…
Hygiene rating is wrong/unfair?
Appeal
- If you feel your rating does not fairly reflect the hygiene standards of your restaurant, you must appeal to your local authority within 14 days of getting your rating.
- Find out more about the appeal process by clicking here.
Unusual circumstances at time of inspection?
Right to reply
- If you’ve improved your hygiene standards since your inspection, or if there were unusual circumstances at the time of the inspection, you can explain this to your customers
- You should submit this to your local authority and it will be published alongside your hygiene rating online
Improved your hygiene standards?
Request a re-visit
- You can ask for another visit to get a new rating if you’ve made the improvements that the food safety officer told you about at your last inspection.
- You’ll need to do this in writing and supply evidence of the improvements made. The forms can be found here.
- The food safety officer will re-assess hygiene standards and give you a new rating. Whilst your rating could go up, it could also stay the same or go down.
