Making a stand on plastic waste

A large amount of the UK’s plastic waste is a by-product of food and drink consumption, and while the takeaway industry isn’t solely responsible, we feel it’s time to do something about it.

So as of 1 March, with your help, we launched a major drive to reduce the impact of takeaways on UK plastic waste levels.

While we know that we can’t rid the takeaway industry of plastic overnight, working alongside our restaurant partners and customers, there are steps we can take right now to tackle wastage. These include:

  • Removing all single-use plastics from our Restaurant Partner Shop
  • Working with other organisations, such as Skipping Rocks Lab, to find alternatives to single-use plastics. The first being a trial introducing edible and decomposable seaweed-based sauce sachets
  • Asking customers to opt out of receiving plastic they don’t need such as; cutlery, straws, and sauce sachets
  • Working with the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) to create resources for you and your customers which will help reduce plastic usage over time

We’re looking forward to working alongside you, our restaurant partners, and with our suppliers to support innovation and to reduce plastic wastage in the future.
